Keeping Ground Control Alive

Amen. No MDA 2 for me, so this is it or nothing.

Well I wouldn't say "this or nothing", atleast I hope you wouldn't give up!
I agree with Steve though. Open Source implies freeware. I also have a clear moral issue with getting a group of tons of people together in an open source community, build this product, have tons of people donate tons of time to get an an app hyped and working, and then slice them out of any pay because the work they did was "open source".
The perfect explain of Open Source gone bad is Hijack. Within 72 hours of Hijack losing they had something like 8 or 9 different websites registered, all saying "coming here for hijack". They even registered a bunch of boardwalk sites, so now if Kevin gets it developed he's going to have to either get the website transfered to him (if the person is kind) or come up with a new name.
Yes they have a good bit rough coded, due to about 2 or 3 people. It wasn't open source that got the code done. It was the dedication of a small number.
When I see what happened with Hijack, I cringe to think of GC going open source.

My two possiblities:
--
1. OpenSource: DonationWare (Enough To Eat? Or just a beer a weak?)
When I think about the Mac OpenSource Scene with a appliaction like groundControl I think about two Developergroups: The Growl-Devs. And BlackTree. They seem from the coding way of thing the two projects which are most related to gc. BlackTree (thats the guy who developes QuickSilver) is an evil genius and he seems to have a lot of time.
How to earn? Donations to the developers, paid themes & merchandising by whitestone? ![]()
--
2. ClosedSource: ShareWare (Enough To Eat? Hopefully.)
Steve as the chief. No bad idea, we have to wait a little and he will bring all his heard-blood into it. Why not? ![]()
--
By the way: When groundcontrol was young I suggested to name the modules "grounders". I still liek the idea ![]()

Ok so this is like THE application I have been looking for. I just found this today. I would like to do anything I can to help...however I don't have any experience in programming...except flash/actionscript...so if you need any flash work done...I'd love to help out there...
on a side note...I am friends with a few developer of smaller apps...if you like I could try to get them to help out on this project...the experience they have from the apps they have made might be useful to GC...but if you don't want me to ask I won't.
I am really excited about this project, I would do anyhting I could to help this application get developed. If there is anything I can do please send me a messege or something.
please contact me asap. thank you.

As far as Flash work, I'd love to take a look at samples of your work--either post in a reply (for all the world to see) or send me a private message with links (and I can reject them in private
). One thing that I have wanted to do in Flash since the contest was the mockup for Skins and Demo that I created as just HTML and rollovers on the main GC home page. But contact me first as I reserve the right to refuse anybody else's designs unless it's absolutely stellar work. I'll be up front with you, as a designer and art director, I'm very particular. Not that there aren't others who could do a better job than me, I just want to make sure that that is the case--that they really can do a better job than me. Nothing personal, but you need to blow my socks off first. But I seriously appreciate the offer.

Feel free to refer your friends to this site and have a look around and make comments and suggestions. Even if we may not need the help with main development (I'll defer to Steve on that front for now), if they've got some good Cocoa chops, there is a potential opportunity to simultaneously be developing other modules for GC.

Thanks for the fresh breath of enthusiasm. Hopefully the fact that this forum has been relatively dead for a few months won't discourage you too much. But until I can make a serious announcement that development is in full-swing, we'll have to twiddle our thumbs a little longer.
BTW: Have you ever looked into tongue-reduction surgery? ![]()
